Sony has officially launched its PS4 companion app for Android and iOS platforms in North America. The app will be available from November 22, a week before the console's launch.

Sony has released a new PS4 companion app for iOS and Android based smartphones, helping users to interact with their consoles while away. The new app includes several new functions including chat with friends on PS3, PS Vita and PS4, buying games from PlayStation Network, watching what other users are playing and much more. The new app is out in North America as the PS4 launch is due for Friday, November 15. Similarly, the app will be launched in Europe on November 22, a week before the launch of Sony's most awaited gaming console takes place.

The PlayStation app for Android and iOS devices allows users to see what friends are playing, compare trophies, view your profile, get notifications, game alerts, and invitations. Users can also use the smartphone app to act as a second screen for the PS4 system. The app works just like the Apple Remote app and iMessage combined. Users can chat with friends and see their recent activities under "What's New" section, according to the press release.

The app also allows users to browse through the PlayStation store and push games to the console so that the game is ready when you get home.

In addition, Gamers can also browse through latest news, blogs and game information from the official website.

The PlayStation app is available for download on App Store and Google Play for free. Users will need a PSN ID to enjoy all the services.

The PS4 gaming console will retail for $399 when it hits the stores in North America Friday, November 15. Stay tuned for more updates from Sony.
