An endorsement by Sarah Palin for Donald Trump would leave the Ted Cruz camp "deeply disappointed," a top aide for the Texas senator said, following the real estate mogul's tease of a "major announcement" to come today.

"I think it would be a blow to Sarah Palin, because Sarah Palin has been a champion of the conservative cause and if she was going to endorse Donald Trump, sadly she would be endorsing someone who's held progressive views all their life on the sanctity of life, on marriage, on partial-birth abortion, he supported [the] TARP bailout - it goes on and on and on," said Rick Tyler, communications director for the Cruz campaign, according to the Hill.

"Donald Trump claims he's changed all those views. But I think if it was Sarah Palin, let me just say I would be deeply disappointed," added Tyler.

Trump has teased a "major announcement" and a "very special guest" at a campaign stop in Ames, Iowa, this afternoon. "We're getting a big endorsement on Tuesday. It's going to be a lot of fun," said Trump in New Hampshire, according to the Washington Examiner. After appearing at Liberty University yesterday, some have speculated that the endorsement could be coming from evangelical leader Jerry Falwell Jr. or from Palin, the former governor of Alaska and 2008 vice-presidential candidate.

As recently as last month, Palin said she wasn't ready to endorse a candidate. "I'm not going to pick one right now, but what a nice problem to have if it came down to Cruz and Trump," Palin told CNN's Jake Tapper. "That's a good problem for voters to have, because we know that, as you say, they are both strong and very decisive and someone who would take the initiative. That is what we need today, and both of those candidates would fit that bill."
