Fitz never gave up hope that he would find his best friend Simmons when she disappeared into another universe. And even after he saved her, he traveled back to the mysterious planet to save Will who kept her alive for months.

"Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." will jump ahead three months when the show returns from its midseason hiatus and the best friends-turned-lovers are still struggling to define their relationship following their interplanetary travel and tracking down Grant Ward (Brett Dalton).

Plus, Simmons "is still in the grieving process" over Will, Elizabeth Henstridge told Entertainment Weekly.

"She's experiencing some survivor's guilt," she said. "Fitz has been so supportive throughout the whole thing. She's going further down that path with him and her feelings. She loves him and wants to be with him. She hasn't forgotten about Will, but it's more the guilt she's carrying. They're taking things slowly on whether they're going to get together or not."

Simmons may need to return the favor and support Fitz (Iain De Caestecker) in the wake of his deadly trip to the mysterious planet. He and Coulson will both face "many emotional consequences," Clark Gregg told TVLine.

"Coulson acted on an impulse," Gregg said about killing Ward. "And he's pretty messed up about it."

"Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." will continue its third season on Tuesday, March 8 on 9 p.m. on ABC.
