Being one of the most successful tech ventures ever created so far, Google is now gearing up for Google Glass 2 scheduled for release on early 2014.

According to Pentagon Post, rumors say that the controversial Google Glass 2 is hitting the market shelves in 2014. Workers at Google X, the lab where Google's creative works are acted upon, have worked hard on several kinds of wearable gadgets. So far, the lab has produced its major product, the Google Glass, and said to create a smartwatch in the near future.

At the recently concluded EmTech conference, Mary Lou Jepsen, pioneer of Google X, confirmed that more wearable computing devices have been lined up. She also said that the wearable devices and Google Glass will have great influence to consumers as they have made it more user-friendly. However, she declined to divulge any other information.

Geek.com reported that the Google Glass 2 will have minor changes from its predecessor and will include a mono earbud and prescription lenses. Mashable reported that the New York-based Rochester Optical confirmed that they are partnering with Google for the special prescription lens add-on.

The Google Glass 2, as explained by Jepsen, will be released sooner than predicted. In their effort to bring the technology forward, everyone at the lab had to sacrifice and sleep for merely three hours a night. This statement somehow indicated that Google Glass 2 will be arriving soon, at least in the coming year.

By now, it is clear that Google always strive to offer something that is innovative to its consumers. At the event, Jepsen has expressed that the company's success depends on the various kinds of wearable computing devices they are working on. She even talked about a smartwatch that can be customized depending on a person's clothes.

It should be noted that the Google Nexus smartwatch is set to arrive in the coming month. Afterwards, Google will be launching the successor of Google Glass in the coming year.

So far, eyewear and smartwatch are what keeps people from Google X labs up on their toes. Aside from these, Google may come up with more innovative wearable products in the future.
