New England Patriots defensive lineman Chandler Jones was rushed to the hospital under suspicious circumstances on Sunday. Reports indicated that Jones showed up with a medical emergency, but almost no record of Jones' visit was made. Jones showed up at Norwood Hospital "all jammed up shirtless and shoeless asking for help from police," according to Lou Merloni.

It turns out that Jones allegedly made the hospital visit after suffering a "bad reaction" to synthetic marijuana, according to Christopher Gasper of the Boston Globe.

Earlier reports had suggested that Jones may have overdosed on pills.

Foxboro Police Chief Edward T. O'Leary denied that the Foxboro Police Department had any dealings with Jones that evening, though dispatch records indicate that a minimum of five officers were on the scene while Jones was being evaluated.

Questioned further as to why he denied police involvement, even though an officer reportedly traveled to Jones' home to ensure that the residence was secure, O'Leary stuck to his guns.

"No, because it was a medical call. I didn't look at it as a police specific call," O'Leary said, per The Boston Herald.

The Patriots are set to square off against the Kansas City Chiefs in an AFC divisional round playoff game this weekend. Jones will be in the lineup, but the NFL plans to review the incident.

"Chandler Jones was admitted to the hospital on Sunday and released that day," the Patriots said in a statement. "He reported to work on time Monday morning and has participated in all meetings and practices since then."
