The ladies of cable television have reason to celebrate. Five shows starring women were renewed for new seasons on Wednesday including HBO's "Girls," which received the official word on its sixth and final season.

News broke on Tuesday that Lena Dunham would wrap her HBO series after six seasons, a little more than a month before its fifth season premieres on Feb. 21. HBO programming president made the announcement on Jan. 6.

"Lena Dunham and her brilliant collaborators, including Judd Apatow and Jenni Konner, have given HBO a signature series of rare wit and intelligence," Lombardo said in a statement. "They are exceptional talents, and I can't wait to see what Lena, Jenni and Judd have in store for the final seasons of this unique show, and look forward to working with them on future projects."

BET gave its hit show, "Being Mary Jane," a fourth season renewal. Star of the show Gabrielle Union confirmed the series would return during the network's presentation at the Television Critics Association winter press tour.

News of a renewal was delayed in the wake of showrunner Mara Brock Akil's exit. She will join Warner Bros. Television this May in an overall deal with her husband, Sam Akil, according to The Hollywood Reporter. "Being Mary Jane" has yet to find a replacement.

Comedy Central renewed Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glazer's "Broad City" for a fourth and fifth season. As an extra bonus, it also greenlit the three-episode limited series, "Traveling Time Bong," from Glazer and "Broad City" executive producers Lucia Aniello and Paul W. Down.

The network also secured rising superstar Amy Schumer for a fifth season of her sketch comedy series, "Inside Amy Schumer." Season four will premiere in April and the third season of "Broad City" will debut on Feb. 17. "Traveling Time Bong" will premiere on April 20, following the season finale of "Broad City."

Last but not least, Sutton Foster's TV Land comedy, "Younger," received a third season pick up a week before its second season premiere on Jan. 13. The show also stars Hilary Duff, Debi Mazar, Miriam Shor and eye candy, Nico Tortorella.
