Rapper DMX, née Earl Simmons, was arrested on Monday outside of an airport in South Carolina for driving without vehicle tags, insurance, or a valid license.

The Spartanburg County Detention Center told Reuters that airport police stopped the "Ruff Ryder's Anthem" artist while he was en route to the Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport on Monday evening. The rapper, who was born in New York and now resides in South Carolina, was arrested on site, once police officers found out he was driving with a suspended license.

42-year-old Simmons was thrown into the clink for a few hours before posting a $1,335 bond on the charges, the Detention Center reported. He was brought into the facility at 6:27 p.m. local time.

"He was arrested on minor traffic charges and only spent three hours in jail," one of Simmons' spokesperson Domenick Nati told Reuters. "This short arrest will not affect any of his upcoming concerts."

Simmons has had multiple run-ins with the law in the recent past. He was arrested in August for possession of marijuana two days before he was scheduled to appear in court on a drunk driving charge, Reuters reported. He also was taken in the previous month on suspicion of driving under the influence and not carrying a valid driver's license.

In the years prior to these misdemeanors, Simmons also was arrested for animal cruelty, reckless driving, drug possession and multiple instances of probation violation. He has additionally been charged with a handful of felonies, and served some time in an Arizona prison.
