Activision and Infinity Ward have released the highly anticipated newest installment in the "Call of Duty" franchise on Tuesday with the release of "Call of Duty: Ghosts." The game has hit store shelves for the PlayStatoin 3, Xbox 360 and Wii U. It will be available on next-generation consoles like the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One once they each have their respective launches. There is, of course, a lot to talk about with the release of any "Call of Duty" title. Perhaps the best place to start is with the game's new story mode.

The world-wide release of the title comes with a storyline written with the help of the Oscar-winning screenwriter Stephen Gaghan, whose previous contributions to film include "Traffic."

The story takes place in a post-apocalyptic near-future that has been riddled by war. It's important to note that, while the game is created by the same developers as the Modern Warfare series, "Call of Duty: Ghosts" exists in an entirely different universe.

The title plays on the idea of family in order to motivate you to fight the enemy against impossible odds. The plot follows what's left of the Special Forces, including the player's character Logan, his brother, Hesh and their father, a commander, according to USA Today.

"We added a very strong family element," says the game's executive producer Mark Rubin. "That experience of how that plays out for you as a player really adds a new story depth."

Players will also get a point of view from the dog Riley, a new companion pet that will have effective functionalities in terms of the game's combat. Riley was motion captured by two actual Navy Seal-trained German shepherds in order to ensure that the dog's movements looked natural. It worked so well that USA Today reports that the character of Riley evolved from "an auxiliary role to more of a teammate, according to animator Zach Volker.

You can pick up your copy of "Call of Duty: Ghosts" at your local game retailer for $60 to see all the secrets of the new method of storytelling on your very own screen.
