Sara Mutschlechner, a student from the University of North Texas, was fatally shot Friday in an alleged road rage shooting on the way back from a New Year's Eve Party in Denton, prompting police to search for suspects described as "five or six black males" who are believed to be connected to her death.

The incident occurred at around 2:00 a.m. Friday when Mutschlechner, 20, was driving back from a New Year's Eve party she had attended with her sorority sisters from Zeta Tau Alpha, according to the Star-Telegram.

Suddenly, a black SUV with five or six men inside of it pulled up beside Mutschlechner's vehicle and words were exchanged between them and the passengers within the car. During the altercation, one of the men in the SUV pulled out a firearm and opened fire on Mutschlechner's vehicle, striking her in the head and causing her to lose control of the vehicle and crash into a nearby utility pole.

Police and emergency personnel responded to the scene at around 2:06 a.m., finding Mutschlechner lying on the ground outside the crashed vehicle and one of the passengers who had suffered minor injuries due to the crash, reported San Antonia Express-News. Mutschlechner was rushed to Denton Regional Medical Center in critical condition and was placed on life support, but was later taken off of it and pronounced dead.

It's unclear what prompted the shooting. Witnesses say Mutschlechner didn't consume alcohol at the party since she was a designated driver for the three other people inside the vehicle. On the other hand, reports indicate that two of the passengers in the SUV had attended the party, according to Newsmax.

In the meantime, police are on the lookout for "five or six black males" who may be connected to the shooting, as well as the SUV they were in. Anyone with information is urged to contact Investigator Eric Beckwith at 940-349-7974.
