An ancient artifact claimed to have been discovered in Austria is said to be an 800-year-old clay model of a mobile phone. The "archaeological" discovery has since launched a frenzy of conspiracy theories as to the authenticity and the nature of the artifact.

The alleged ancient smartphone, which suspiciously looks like an analog Nokia cellular phone of old, has a keypad and what appears to be a small display. Instead of an alpha numeric keys, however, it is engraved with characters that are similar to the Sumerian cuneiform. The object was found earlier this year in the Austrian city of Fuschl am See, according to The Independent.

There is still no information about the archaeological dig or the identity of the archaeologists who discovered the object. This has prompted some skeptics to label the artifact as a hoax, the Daily Mail reported. However, there are hardcore believers who declare amazement, citing the sheer significance of information contained in the clay model.

"It is evident from this cell phone like device that someone with an advanced knowledge of the future created it," said Scott Waring, an editor and UFO enthusiast. "The language is said to go back tens of thousands of years...very cool discovery."

Three theories have emerged so far regarding the origin of the clay phone model. Some believe it is either evidence of an advanced ancient civilization or past alien visits, according to Rhe Sunday Express. On the other hand, there are those who believe that it could indicate the possibility of time travel. Watch the video that purportedly show the actual video documentation of the ancient "device."
