Ohio authorities report that a "very dangerous" suspect who escaped from police custody in Lorain has been a captured again in Lakewood Wednesday evening.

The suspect, identified as 27-year-old Alan Thomas Wharton, was travelling west on I-90 in a police cruiser at 4 p.m. en route from the MetroHealth Medical Center to the Lorain City Jail when he kicked out a window and escaped on foot, Lorain police said, according to ABC's Cleveland affiliate WEWS-TV.

Wharton was able to remove his handcuffs shortly after his escape and managed to momentarily evade police.

Police launched a manhunt and eventually managed to find him several hours later in Lakewood, according to FOX's Clevland affiliate WJW-TV.

Details about Wharton's arrest are currently unclear, however early reports indicate that he was tracked down to his mother's home where he surrendered to police. 

Wharton was initially apprehended by Parma Police on an outstanding warrant for burglary and domestic violence. He was handed over to Lorain police at the hospital and was en route to the police station when he made his escape, according to The Chronicle Telegram.

On top of his initial charges, Wharton faces felony vandalism and escape charges.
