Japanese YouTuber Luna Angel had a surprising end to a grocery shopping trip when her parakeet, Pi-Chan, fully adopted one of the quail eggs that she'd purchased. Angel had decided to give the egg to her bird as a way to keep it amused, but she had no idea what was to come, said Little Things.

Pi-Chan's parental intuition to sit on the egg seemed adorable but silly at first. Suddenly, Angel realized that the egg had called to Pi-Chan so strongly for a reason: it was hatching.

Though in the U.S. it's impossible for this to happen because of the chilly temperatures in which we store our eggs, in Japan, eggs are kept at room temperature. Though it's very uncommon for a fertilized egg to make its way into the pack of eggs ready for consumption, it's not unheard of, explained Little Things.

After a week, the fuzzy, tiny newborn quail emerged and was promptly named Yuzu. Angel recorded her first steps, noises and cuddles and posted them online, said My Modern Met.

The unlikely addition to Angel's family has been loved and cared for with enthusiasm. Angel documents the lives of Yuzu and Pi-Chan on her YouTube channel, Luna Angel.
