"The Meredith Vieira Show" could face the chopping block in early 2016 if ratings don't rebound, according to Page Six.

To boost the ratings, NBC Universal revamped Vieira's format, but it's done little to help. The show debuted its second season in September to a 0.8 household rating, down 50 percent from its series premiere.

The network has told celebrity guests' representatives that the show will be cancelled and off the air by March, according to Page Six. The former "Today" and "View" co-host has struggled to compete against daytime players like Ellen DeGeneres, Steve Harvey, Wendy Williams and Dr. Phil.

"The Meredith Vieira Show" is currently on a two-week holiday break and will go back into production in January. A rep for the show gave no comment on the future of the series to Page Six.

NBC Universal may replace Vieira with a talk show similar to "The View" with multiple hosts. The network also wants to compete against CBS's "The Talk" and "The Real."

"NBC hasn't had a panel-type talk show in recent history," a source told Page Six. "They look at the success of CBS's 'The Talk' and 'The Real' and want to replicate that."
