Stephen Colbert and the writers at "The Late Show" have made many jokes at the expensive of GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump, but the host said there was one thing he found "appealing" about Trump.

In an interview with "Face the Nation," Colbert revealed that he thought it was interesting that Trump remains extremely popular with registered Republicans and Independents that learn towards Republican, according to a CNN poll.

"There's a populism to Trump that I found very appealing," he said in the interview set to air in full on Sunday, according to Entertainment Weekly. "The party elders would want him to go away, but the people have decided that he is not going to. I may disagree with anything that he's saying and think that is proposals are a little, well, more than a little shocking, but there is something hopeful about the fact that 36 percent of the voters want him so people in the machine can't say otherwise. That's the one saving grace of his candidacy."

Moderator John Dickerson then asked Colbert if he had any "Trump respect" in him at all, to which the host admitted that he respecting one thing about the candidate.

"What I do respect is that he knows it is an emotional appeal," he said. "And that's why I may be wrong, I made a big deal about how there's no way he's going to win."
