Normally, you don't tend to associate superhero movies with the types of films that are routinely recognized by the Academy Awards. Even though arguments can be made that movies such as "The Dark Knight" or "Marvel's The Avengers" were the best, most enjoyable films of their respective years, neither got so much as a nod from the Academy.

But what if Oscars-favorite Quentin Tarantino did a superhero movie?

I know what you're thinking, "that's absolutely crazy!" But, it sounds as if Tarantino flirted with the comic book world once upon a time.

Talking to The Nerdist Podcast, Tarantino revealed that he once interested in doing a move about Luke Cage, a popular Marvel character introduced in 1972.

"One of the outside projects that I considered doing was a Luke Cage movie," Tarantino said. "Luke Cage was my hero when I was a kid collecting comic books. He was my favorite character, and I always made [the comics] into a movie in my head every time I [read] them."

Imagine that, a badass superhero withstanding gun shots and what not while also spouting the type of slick, fast-paced dialogue Tarantino has made his name on? That is the definition of awesome. Plus, Cage's original backstory might as well have come straight from a Tarantino screen play.

In the comics, Luke is framed for a crime and sent to Seagate Prison. While there, he joins an experimental super soldier program and attains super strength and impenetrable skin. Tarantino would have had an R-rated field day with material like that.

But there's no reason to cry over spilt milk, as we did just receive a pretty cool Luke Cage in "Jessica Jones." As played by Mike Colter, Luke is every bit the hardened street-level hero with a heart of gold that you've heard about. His spinoff series "Luke Cage" is already generating hype among the Netflix loyalists.

Still, Cage in Tarantino's hands? Movie goers will just have to keep dreaming.

Tarantino's "The Hateful Eight" will see a limited release on Dec. 25. The first season of Netflix's "Luke Cage" is expected to debut sometime in spring 2016.
