A day after his appearance in court on to answer to an assault charge, a rep for Chris Brown has confirmed that the troubled pop star is now entering rehab, E! News reports.

"Chris Brown has elected to enter a rehab facility," the rep said in a statement. "His goal is to gain focus and insight into his past and recent behavior, enabling him to continue the pursuit of his life and his career from a healthier vantage point."

Brown has a history of legal run-ins and violent behavior, from his infamous attack on then-girlfriend Rihanna in 2009 to a scuffle with Drake and his entourage outside of a NYC nightclub last year. In January, Brown and Frank Ocean were involved in a physical confrontation in which Brown allegedly punched the R&B singer and called him a homophobic slur, though Ocean did not press charges.

Most recently, Brown was arrested for a felony assault in Washington D.C. over the weekend after two women allegedly wanted to take a photo with the star outside of the W Hotel and two men attempted to jump in. After Brown allegedly said, "I'm not into this gay s**t, I feel like boxing," he and his bodyguard reportedly threw punches at the men, one of whom later claimed was injured and that Brown had broken his nose, according to XXL Magazine.

Yesterday, Oct. 28, Brown was released from jail after his charge was dropped from felony to misdemeanor, and the judge set a preliminary hearing for Nov. 25. If convicted, Reuters reports that Brown faces a maximum of six months in jail and a $1,000 fine. The Grammy-winning singer, who has been on probation since 2009, pled not guilty to assault.
