A Russian cruise missile went astray during a test launch on Tuesday, landing in the village of Nyonoksa in northwestern Russia. The Russian Defense Ministry issued a statement clarifying that there was no damage caused by the misfire, but national news agencies reported that the impact did start a fire in a multistoried residential building,

The Ministry stated that the missile "deviated from its designated flight path" because of an unidentified problem, according to CBS News. It was in the process of being tested by NPO Mashinostroyeniye, one of Russia's primary missile manufacturing companies.

The Ministry declared that experts were working to define the reasons for the failure, explains the Guardian. Officials did not mention the missile type, nor did they provide further details.

Russian news agencies reported that although the missile caused damage to the roof and several apartments in the building, there were no casualties.
