The town of Newtown, Conn., held a quiet remembrance for the third anniversary of the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre on Monday. Half-staffed flags are displayed all over Connecticut to pay respect to the 26 victims of the shooting, 20 of which were children. This is the first time since the shooting that the anniversary fell on a school day.

Worship places are holding memorial services, but no events with regards to the incident were planned. On Monday evening, an arranged interfaith community service in Trinity Church in Newtown will only hold prayers, music, and a candle lighting ceremony, according to the Associated Press.

The town also sent grief counselors to the seven public schools in Newtown, including Sandy Hook. There are no other major events to honor the incident's anniversary, but the residents of the town tweeted each day to honor each of the victims of the Sandy Hook until Dec. 14. The "26 Days of Kindness" Twitter feed posts memories about each of the victims, according to Yahoo News.

Lenny Pozner took part in Twitter's "26 Days of Kindness" to honor the memory of his 6-year-old son, Noah, who was one of the shooting's victims. Pozner has faced conspiracy theorists claiming that the Sandy Hook massacre was a hoax perpetrated by the United States government.

"I know that the more garbage that is out there, the more it ages over time, the more the myth becomes accepted as a disgusting historical fact that tries to dismiss the existence of my child," Pozner said, according to Vice. "I mean, damn it, his life had value. He existed. He was real. How dare they."

It was on Dec. 14, 2012, when Adam Lanza, 20, killed his mother then proceeded to Sandy Hook Elementary School, and shot 20 first-grade pupils and six teachers in the school. Lanza then killed himself afterward.
