The New York Giants have waived defensive end Damontre Moore because he reportedly got into an altercation with another teammate before practice, according to NFL reporter Ian Rapoport.

"We made the move today in the interest of both parties," said general manager Jerry Reese, via the Giants team website. Moore was a third round draft pick in 2013, and had recorded 8.5 sacks in the past two seasons. The move came as a surprise for many Giants fans, as their pass rush ranks second to last in the league with only 15 sacks on the year.

Moore had three sacks this season and 23 combined tackles. The 23-year-old defensive end was clearly a talented player, but continued to make costly mistakes on the field. The Giants have struggled with their pass rush this season, and defensive end Robert Ayers has been added to their injury report with a neck injury, according to ESPN's Dan Graziano, making Moore's dismissal all the more shocking.

The Giants will need defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul, and defensive tackle Cullen Jenkins to step it up this week against the Miami Dolphins if they're going to stop Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill. Pierre-Paul has yet to record a sack since returning for the Giants this season, but has continually put pressure on opposing quarterbacks. New York is currently in a three-way tie in the NFC East at 5-7, and losing a pass rusher like Moore could be a big difference down the stretch of this season.

Moore has shown he has talent, and despite the reported altercation will likely have at least a few teams interested in him.
