A woman and her four children were brutally murdered in a stabbing attack at their Brooklyn home and a suspect is in custody, ABC News reported.

The bodies were discovered late Saturday after police arrived at the scene in the Sunset Park section. All victims were found unresponsive and unconscious.

Two girls, Linda Zhou, 9, Amy Zhou, 7, and the youngest son, William Zhou, 1, were pronounced dead at the home. Their brother, Kevin Zhou, 5, and the mother, Qiao Zhen Li, 37, were rushed to the hospital where they were eventually pronounced dead as well.

Authorities found a knife at the scene and detained an unidentified man though no charges have been filed as of Sunday.

First responders arrived at the scene around 11:00 p.m. following a 911 call from a stabbing victim in Sunset Park according to the New York Daily News.

A neighbor of the family, Bob Madden, said he saw a man being taken out of the building by police and was "staring, he was expressionless."

The mother's cousin, Yuan Gao, said the man was living with different people and recently moved nearby.

May Chan, a woman who lives in the area, recalled her memories of the children to reporters.

"I always see (the kids) running around here," Chan said. "They run around by my garage playing. They run up and down screaming. They're little kids ... that's so heartbreaking. Innocent kids, my God."

She also said the father was inconsolable when he came home, who was told what happened through a Chinese interpreter.

"The father was freaking out," said Chan. "He just came home from work and saw the police and they told him. He was hysterical."

The New York Daily News reported an unnamed police officer said the incident was possibly a domestic violence case.
