A 32-year-old Samuel Nathan Duran turned himself in to Sacramento police after a nine-hour long standoff that resulted in three wounded officers on Saturday morning, the Associated Press reported.

The shootings started on Friday around 3 p.m. when a federal immigration officer approached Duran, along with three local police officers. Law enforcement had been searching for Duran, a wanted parolee, in the area for the past 10 days, the AP reported.

According to Roseville police Lt. Cal Walstad, after initial contact was made with Duran he fired a shot, hitting the immigration officer in the leg, the AP reported. Duran was using an "assault-type" weapon.

After firing the first shot, Duran fled, exchanging more gunfire that wounded two more officers, one in the jaw and another in the shoulder, according to the AP. Both officers were considered in stable condition at Sutter Medical Center.

The incident occurred around a middle class suburb of about 120,000 people creating chaos as the shooter tried to escape police, firing off several shots, Walstad said, according to the AP. As the standoff lingered into the night, buses transferred the suburb residents to a shelter where they spent the night.

According to CNN, the suspect took cover in one of the houses. When he entered, the residents called 911 and were instructed to leave quietly out the back door.

Deborah Hoffman, a spokeswoman for the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation confirmed Duran's parolee condition but denied any other information on his imprisonment and crimes or when he was released, the AP reported.

Roseville Police Chief Daniel Hahn said none of their injuries to the officers were life-threatening, according to the AP.

"Everybody's doing as well as can be expected," Hahn said. "The families are with them, and we're hoping for a quick recovery."
