The Boston Red Sox continue to make transactions after acquiring Craig Kimbrel and signing David Price. They made a trade with the Milwaukee Brewers on the final day of the MLB Winter Meetings.

Boston sent prospect Garin Cecchini to Milwaukee for cash considerations. Alex Speier of the Boston Globe was the first to report the deal and both clubs confirmed the trade shortly after.

Cecchini, 24, has long been the subject of trade rumors, especially since the Red Sox signed Pablo Sandoval to a five-year contract. It was believed Cecchini, who was ranked the team's No. 11 overall prospect, could be the third baseman of the future, but his stints at Triple-A Pawtucket over the past two seasons weren't all that impressive. He batted just .213 in 117 games in 2015.

Cecchini can also play the outfield, but the Red Sox have a surplus of outfielders and there's no room for the youngster. He was once considered a promising prospect before his development seemingly halted after his impressive 2013 season.

The Brewers could be solid a fit for Cecchini because Milwaukee is looking to build from the bottom up and he could compete for the third base job if he plays well at Triple-A after this change of scenery. Cecchini also logged some games at first base this past season and perhaps added to his versatility.

Milwaukee has already traded veterans Francisco Rodriguez and Adam Lind in an attempt to get younger and rebuild the farm system.

Today is the final day of the Winter Meetings so keep an eye out for some big moves before the day comes to an end.
