The "Star Wars: Episode VII" preproduction crew announced on Oct. 24 that director J.J. Abrams and writer Lawrence Kasdan will be taking over the film's script.

According to multiple reports, Michael Arndt has been working on the script since 2012. It is unclear if Arndt was let go due to creative differences with the "Star Wars" production team. However, "Star Wars" creator George Lucas' son, Jett Lucas, recently told Mashable that he'd seen Arndt's script and liked the direction the film was heading.

"I already know what happens," Lucas said about the plot. "I'm happy with what's going to happen."

Whatever the reason they let Arndt go, it must be a good one seeing as though George picked Abrams himself to direct the upcoming film.

"He's constantly talking to J.J. [Abrams, director of Episode VII]," Lucas explained to Mashable, referring to his father's working relationship with Abrams. "Obviously J.J. was handpicked. [George] is there to guide, whenever, he'll help where he can. At the same time, he wants to let it go and become its new generation."

Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy is also confident in Abram's writing abilities, according to the statement released by StarWars.com:

"I am very excited about the story we have in place and thrilled to have Larry and J.J. working on the script. There are very few people who fundamentally understand the way a Star Wars story works like Larry, and it is nothing short of incredible to have him even more deeply involved in its return to the big screen. J.J. of course is an incredible storyteller in his own right. Michael Arndt has done a terrific job bringing us to this point and we have an amazing filmmaking and design team in place already prepping for production."
