Prison officials revealed that the two inmates who escaped from the Dixon Springs Impact Incarceration Program in southern Illinois have been captured about a mile away, a day after their escape. Correctional staff had noticed that Jerrette Reed, 25, and Kevin Rivera, 20, had gone missing at around 5:50 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 6, 2015, reported ABC's Illinois affiliate WQAD-TV.

Both men were serving time for drug-related charges. Reed was serving three years in Randolph County, while Rivera was serving a five-year term out of Cook County.

Following their escape, the Illinois Department of Corrections teamed up with local authorities to find the offenders. The two were were eventually found at around 9 a.m. Monday in a field west of the Dixon Springs facility, and were apprehended and taken into custody without incident, according to FOX's St. Louis affiliate KTVI-TV.

Following their capture, the two were taken back to the facility and given a medical examination before being transferred to a maximum security prison, according to the Associated Press.

The facility is located near the Kentucky border in Pope County.
