Tesla announced Thursday that it has hired the Vice President of Mac Hardware Engineering at Apple, Doug Field, as the company's Vehicle Programs VP.

Tesla is looking at using the genius behind the Mac hardware for its future vehicle programs. The California-based luxury car manufacturer announced Thursday that it has hired Apple's top engineering executive, Doug Field, who served as the Vice President of Mac Hardware Engineering. The new posting will place Field as the VP of the Vehicle Programs division.

"Doug has demonstrated the leadership and technical talent to develop and deliver outstanding products, including what are widely considered the best computers in the world," Elon Musk, Tesla co-founder and CEO, said in a press statement. "Tesla's future depends on engineers who can create the most innovative, technologically advanced vehicles in the world. Doug's experience in both consumer electronics and traditional automotive makes him an important addition to our leadership team."

Besides his influential job profile at Apple, Field previously worked at Ford Motors as an engineer. His role as a VP at Tesla Vehicle Programs will be to oversee the "development of new vehicles." But the company did not share Field's detailed job role.

Field also sees this as an opportunity to achieve his dream of creating incredible cars from where he had left off. "As the first high tech auto company in modern history, Tesla is at last an opportunity for me and many others to pursue the dream of building the best cars in the world-while being part of one of the most innovative companies in Silicon Valley," Field said in a statement.

With Field's intelligence and experience, Musk will be able to fulfill his desire to come up with a more affordable EV and self driving cars in the future.
