The New York Times broke with journalistic precendent on Dec 4 and printed an editorial on its front page. The editorial is entitled "End the Gun Epidemic in America" called for better gun control policies following a series of gun related crimes throughout the country, according to USA Today.

"It is a moral outrage and a national disgrace that civilians can legally purchase weapons designed specifically to kill people with brutal speed and efficiency.... Worse, politicians abet would-be killers by creating gun markets for them, and voters allow those politicians to keep their jobs," reads the editorial.

The editorial also suggests drastically reducing the number of firearms and even "eliminating some large categories of weapons and ammunition."

This is not the first time that The New York Times placed an editorial on the front page. The first one on June 13, 1920, calling for voters to be critical about Warren Harding's run for the presidency under the Republican banner, reports Yahoo News .
