Nintendo has been developing a new hardware called NX in its bid to stay relevant in a highly competitive gaming market. The company announced this next generation hardware last March, as HNGN previously reported. However, there is still no word from the company regarding its release. A new report, however, claims that NX will begin shipping in 2016 when Nintendo finishes the mass production of 10-12 million units. This is less than the rumored 20 million units that Nintendo is said to be targeting, according to Techno Buffalo.

The new information about the shipment schedule and production figures came from Nintendo upstream component suppliers in Taiwan, Digitimes reported. This rumor also included a purported scheduled mass production phase by the end of the first quarter of next year.

At this juncture, the Nintendo NX is still shrouded in secrecy. One can only turn to ambiguous pronouncements pertaining to the device made by the game developer earlier this year. For instance, Satoru Iwata merely identified the so-called "brand new concept" during a press briefing last March.

"As proof that Nintendo maintains strong enthusiasm for the dedicated game system business, let me confirm that Nintendo is currently developing a dedicated game platform with a brand-new concept under the development codename 'NX,'" Iwata said, according to GameSpot. "It is too early to elaborate on the details of this project, but we hope to share more information with you next year."

There are those who doubt the report about Nintendo NX's early 2016 release. It is difficult to reconcile a device launch a few months after mass production, considering the fact that Nintendo has been silent about the process, Forbes noted. However, if the early 2016 release is indeed true, it could happen before or during E3 2016. Nintendo previously used the event when it unveiled the Wii U in 2012.
