Encountering screaming and crying babies is part of a pediatrician's job and Santa Monica-based Dr. Robert Hamilton has experienced this regularly in his 30 years of practice. So used was the doctor with these encounters that he thought of devising a most effective trick to soothe and calm the babies.

Hamilton calls his technique "The Hold," and he recently shared how it's done in a video. In it, the doctor demonstrates the trick by folding the baby's arms to her chest and as he supports her head, with the doctor's other hand clasping the baby at her bottom.

The baby was also angled at 45 degrees and then she was slowly rocked up and down. While doing the technique, the baby's bottom was also being gently rocked back and forth, according to Mashable.

The technique was shared on Reddit, where some members took note of the way the doctor held the baby. "It's interesting to watch this dude handle babies like recently thawed butterball turkeys," said one commenter. However, some expressed babies are quite resilient and one shared that the doctor told him and his wife, "They aren't as fragile as you think they are."

The baby in the video has her chin resting on the doctor's index finger and set at an angle, there was no danger for her to throw her head back or lose balance.
