San Diego Chargers offensive coordinator Frank Reich reportedly interviewed for the Maryland Terrapins head coaching position on Monday, according to Don Markus of the Baltimore Sun. The Terrapins former offensive coordinator and interim head coach Mike Locksley also reportedly interviewed for the position.

Maryland fired head coach Randy Edsall midseason, and the Terrapins finished at 3-9 on the year. Locksley led Maryland to a win over Rutgers this past Saturday, but finished with a record of 1-5 as the interim head coach. Maryland finished in last place in the East division of the Big Ten, and their only conference win was over a struggling Rutgers program.

The San Diego Chargers are currently 3-8 on the season, and there have already been reports that the team could be interested in Panthers defensive coordinator Sean McDermott as their next head coach. While San Diego has clearly struggled this season, they are currently ranked fifth in the NFL in terms of yards per game. Reich played quarterback at the University of Maryland, and is reportedly the first candidate to meet with the search committee for the Terrapins next head coaching job.

Reich isn't the only big name Maryland athletic director Kevin Anderson is going to interview for the job, as Michigan defensive coordinator D.J. Durkin and former Georgia Bulldogs head coach Mark Richt have both reportedly been contacted by Maryland for interviews, according to Markus.

It will be interesting to see which direction Maryland heads, as they will likely need a big name coach if they want to bring in recruits in the Big Ten. With teams like Ohio State, Michigan State, Penn State and Michigan in the Eastern division of the conference, the Terrapins may need some time before they compete in one of the strongest conferences in college football.
