Unlimited data is going to get more expensive for AT&T customers, as the company will raise the cost of its unlimited data plan by $5 starting in February, according to The Verge. The move will bring the monthly cost up to $35.

The price increase is the first one the telecommunications giant has introduced in seven years, Macworld reported.

The AT&T support site posted a statement on its website following the announcement.

"Consumers and businesses are using mobile data at record levels and the trend is expected to continue. To help ensure we continue to provide the best service for all of our customers, a small price increase is being made at this time," the statement reads, according to PC Magazine.

The announcement follows after Verizon raised the price of its unlimited data plan an extra $20 per line earlier this year, The Verge reported.

The price increase leaves many a bit dissatisfied, especially after the company announced that their "unlimited" data plan was technically capped at 22GB per month.

Customers who do not want to pay the increased fare will be able to terminate their contracts within 60 days of the price increase, PC Magazine noted.
