The Golden State Warriors are in the middle of making history as they are 19-0 and it is incredible to watch. The funny thing about the run they are on is that they are doing it without their head coach as Steve Kerr has yet to coach a game this season. Interim head coach Luke Walton has been leading the team and has yet to lose a game but the wins are not going on his record they are instead going on Kerr's record, the NBA announced on Tuesday.

There are people that will argue that the Warriors roster is so stacked that they don't even need a coach but that is neither here nor there. Walton is doing a heck of a job with this team and the fact that it is December and they have yet to lose is quite an accomplishment but Walton will not have wins on his record to show for it.

While Kerr gets the credit for all 19 wins Walton is still eligible to win the NBA Coach of the Month award for November and is fully expected to receive that honor on Tuesday. The interesting thing about this is that the Coach of the Month for November will have exactly zero wins on his coaching resume. Kerr is currently out as he is still recovering from back surgery and it is unknown when he might come back but if he cannot return this season Walton will also be eligible for the Coach of the Year award despite not having any wins to his name.

While Walton is doing the coaching Kerr is still technically the head coach of the team which is why he gets credited for the wins. The reason the NBA will not allow interim head coaches to take wins and losses is because they typically do not have free reign to do what they want and they usually are not able to install their own systems, according to Marc Stein of ESPN.

This situation is certainly a weird but interesting one as the Warriors are off to the greatest start in NBA history. The Warriors hope to have Kerr back sometime soon but in the meantime Walton has done a great job and he will likely have a Coach of the Month award to show for it, if not any wins on his resume.
