On Monday, Donald Glover, star of NBC's cult hit Community and rapper under the persona Childish Gambino, posted a series of deeply personal and somewhat troubling notes to his Instagram account. Now, in a recent interview, the actor and musician has explained his rant as just a rant on a bad day.

"That night, we had a show, and then afterwards, I had this moment of feeling like, 'What's the point? Why am I even here?' " Glover told PEOPLE exclusively Wednesday. "I just wanted to write down my feelings. I definitely was just expressing myself."

According to the interview, Glover, 30, doesn't want to call the state he's in depression.

"If I'm depressed, everybody's depressed," he says. "I don't think those feelings are that different from what everybody's feeling. Most people just don't tell everybody," the actor explained. He has been undergoing a lot of career moves in the past few months as it was announced that he would be leaving his role as Troy Barnes on the NBC show and is in the midst of trying to put out a new rap album.

"I was just tired of telling people I was tired. It felt like every day someone would ask, 'What's wrong. Are you OK?' " says Glover. "And I would say, 'I'm tired, I'm tired.' I didn't want to do that anymore. I guess sometimes not telling the truth is just as bad as telling a lie."

Unfortunately the actor declined to elaborate on any of the comments that he made regarding the few key nuggets that made the posting so interesting to fans. He wouldn't talk about the part where it said he'd been sick the past year or that he did not in fact leave Community to be a rapper like many people believed and assumed.

"I'm glad people saw it. I feel like I got some stuff out there," he said. "I got it off my chest. It felt like I had been holding on to something."
