Lindy Booth, the perky Canadian redhead, has appeared in many films and prime-time TV shows such as "NCIS," "Starhunter" and "CSI: N.Y." She gained notoriety for her roles as Riley Grant on the Disney Channel series "The Famous Jett Jackson" and as Claudia in the TV series "Relic Hunter." But her recognizability factor made a huge leap when she joined the cast of fantasy-adventure show "The Librarians," now in its second season on TNT.

Along with Lindy, the cast stars Rebecca Romijn, Christian Kane, John Kim and John Larroquette, who, as The Librarians, an ancient organization hidden beneath the Metropolitan Public Library, dedicate themselves to solving mysteries, encountering evil in their adventures amidst a magical reality to save priceless artifacts and the world. Noah Wyle, also a co-executive producer, recurs as Flynn Carsen, his reprised role from TNT's hit movie trilogy version.

Booth recently chatted with HNGN about what adventures lay ahead for her on "The Librarians," what it's like acting alongside Romijn and Laroquette and what famous redheaded actresses fans sometimes mistake her for.

Tell us a bit about the character you portray on the show, Cassandra Cillian.

She is one of a team of new Librarians. Not just your average librarian, though, this group is tasked with collecting magical artifacts and keeping control as magic is released into our world. At the beginning of season two we are all brought back together to face Prospero, from Shakespeare's "The Tempest," and his band of fictionals - villains from literature. Cassandra is the maths and sciences expert on the team. She has a photographic memory and is also a Synesthete, meaning that her senses are cross-wired; when she sees numbers, she sees them as colors, science expresses itself to her as musical notes and math smells like breakfast food! She sees the world in a very different way from everyone else, and this helps give her a unique perspective within the team. She also has a deep connection to magic that we are starting to uncover this season.

Are you anything like your character on the show?

Like Cassandra I am a bit of an outsider... I was always a little left of center and a little goofy, I always have done my own thing and never quite fit into a specific mold. I relate to Cass most in that way. I also share her optimism, enthusiasm and love of life. It's interesting playing a character with a terminal brain tumor and still finding ways to look at things positively. But the Library has given Cassandra a purpose and a second chance at life, and she is relishing it.

I also definitely share Cassandra's quirky sense of style. Our costume designer Critter Pierce and I work closely to come up with her looks. They're a constantly changing reflection of her feelings and her love of life. And as someone who sees numbers and colors so closely tied.... They are a nod to her love of math too!

Are there any traits in your role of Cassandra you would like to incorporate into your real life?

I love that Cassandra is really speaking her mind this year. She was so shy and withdrawn last year, and I have a tendency to be that way too. I've been very inspired by the way she is vocalizing her feelings and wants and needs. She has strong points of view, and she's willing to risk being wrong to express them. I really admire that. Also, I wish I were better at math!

What would you like to happen in the show they have yet to do?

Our writers are so freaking smart! I love that every time I open a script something amazing that I could never even imagine is happening! I trust them completely.... Like this idea of all the great fictional villains coming to life from the pages of books, how amazing is that?

I can't wait to see magic really come out in the open in the world. To see how it affects everyday life, but also to see how The Librarians try to clean up that mess!

Have you learned anything from doing the show?

I have learned so much from the show. With my character's knowledge of math and science and the incredible depth of knowledge that our writers have, it's impossible not to. Whenever I get a new script I'm in front of the computer Googling half of my dialog, just to figure out what it means.

I will never understand all of it, but I've grasped enough of some pretty high-level physics and math that I can make it sound like I know what I'm talking about!

What episode has been the most interesting for you?

I love any episode where we get to play a different version of ourselves. The finale last year, where we saw an alternate universe, the Fairy Tale episode, where Cassandra was Prince Charming, even the Apple of Discord episode, where we met evil Cass. I find it really interesting and challenging to find different sides of this character and then find ways to slip what I've learned back into the version of her that we see the rest of the time. Just knowing that there are these other sides of her hidden deep in her psyche have really helped me flush her out into a much deeper and more interesting character. And we will get to see yet another version of Cassandra later on in Season 2.

What would you like your character to do in future episodes?

One thing I would love to see and that has been hinted at a little bit, has to do with the leftover magic that Cassandra held onto from Merlin in the fairy tale episode last season. A lot of fans ask me about that... and I have to say, I'm curious too!

I love your costumes. Did you have a say in what you wear?

Our costume designer Critter Pierce and I have a very close relationship and way too much fun picking out Cassandra's wardrobe. We put a lot of thought into each outfit and where she is personally and what she's trying to achieve each episode. There are no rules with Cass. No color too bright, no pattern too busy and never enough layers or accessories. At the beginning of the show we dressed her in a lot of long sleeves, loose layers and pale colors as a reflection of her need to hide out and not be seen. Now that she's more comfortable in her own skin we are taking a lot more risks with her wardrobe and experimenting with the colors that she relates to as numbers with her synesthesia.

Do young fans recognize you?

I get recognized by fans of all ages now. I think one of the greatest things about this show is that it's for people of all ages. I love meeting people who tell me they watch this show with their own kids and their parents, and everyone can get something out of it, the adventure, the action, the laughs, the romance. There is literally something in it for all ages. I love that we can cross those generational lines. I remember watching the Indiana Jones movies with my dad when I was a kid and having that same experience. We both loved them. So it's fun to be recognized by whole families for something.

Any funny or other story re encounters by a fan?

I love going to Comic-Con. Either in San Diego or New York. It's such an incredible opportunity to meet with fans on a gigantic scale. Our fans have been incredibly supportive and enthusiastic about the show, and I love hearing how much the show has meant to them. My favorite encounters are with people doing Cassandra cosplay! It's amazing... the incredible detail they have gone into, finding the exact same sweater, how they made socks to look just like mine, getting the red hair just right. It's incredibly flattering and very, very sweet. My other favorite encounters are when someone chases me down the street yelling, "Hey it's Gillian Anderson!" or Alicia Witt or Amy Adams. Name a redhead, and I've been run down by one of her fans!

What's it like working with the cast? Do you have fun while working?

This cast is amazing. Hands down. All around. Working with John Larroquette is a dream come true for me. Dan Fielding on "Night Court" is one of my all-time favorite characters, and working with John is like a master class in comedy every day.

Rebecca is one of my favorite people in the world. she and I are such good friends now, I think you'll start to see Cassandra and Eve's relationship develop this season as a result of that. Working with Noah Wylie is amazing. He loves playing Flynn so much and after 10 years, the character is so much a part of him, it's just a joy to watch.

And Christian, John and I are having such a great time as the LITs, really playing off of each other. We have such a fun chemistry, it makes everything more fun.

I think you really get a sense of how much we genuinely like each other as a cast on the show. We are having way too much fun. And I think that comes across on screen.

Are you off-screen friends as well?

Rebecca and I are super tight. As the only girls on the show, we have to stick together. We have lots of dinners out in Portland while we're shooting and even when we're back home in L.A. We've spent holidays and weekends together out on the Oregon coast, we go tubing down the river. All sorts of fun.

And the boys and I go bowling or to movies or dinners at least once a week while we're away. We also try to do as many cast game nights as we can squeeze in. We're all super competitive, so it gets heated and fun.

What types of roles are you drawn to?

I'm interested in such a wide variety of characters. I never like to get to comfortable playing anything. That would be too easy! I love characters that have a history, a flaw and a secret, but that could be a comedy, a drama or an action film, as long as it's well written. I love playing strong and smart women and someone with a little something different, like Cassandra or Night Bitch ("Kick Ass 2") or Pizza Girl ("October Road"). They all are truly their own people who know what they want and who they are.

What type of role would you love to play that you haven't had the chance to do yet?

I'd love to do a Shakespearian play at some point. I've always been drawn to his works, even at a young age. That's partly why I'm so excited about this season of The Librarians and being able to play opposite Prospero.

Do you have any other projects coming up?

I'm currently in Ottawa shooting a great thriller called "Eyewitness," directed by Andrew Erin and co-starring Craig Olejnik.

What do you do for fun?

I'm a runner. I've run a couple of marathons in the past and am trying to get my mile count up again now to maybe do a half marathon in the new year.

I'm an avid reader. I set a New Year's resolution to read two books every month. I haven't quite stuck to it, but I'm doing pretty great and have read some amazing books.

I've just started learning to play the ukulele. I've been taking lessons for a month now. I'm not particularly musical, but I'm improving and loving it and loving the experience of learning something totally new and out of my comfort zone.

Is there something you want say to your fans?

I really, really love what I do. And it means the world to me when you come up and share stories about shows or movies that I've done that have touched you/made you laugh/scared you!

What makes you angry?

People who stop and just stand there as soon as they get off an escalator.

What makes you happy?

My family. My friends. My work. In that order. And french fries. Always french fries.
