The Spanish coast guard has reported that at least one person died after a boat carrying migrants capsized off the western coast of Africa.

Searchers say that the body was found about 25 miles from Western Sahara, a former Spanish colony, and 147 miles from the Canary Islands. The boat that the migrant was on was carrying sub-Saharan Africans to the Canary Islands, reported the Associated Press

A coast guard spokeswoman, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said that Wednesday's search comes after 22 men from the boat were rescued Tuesday evening.

Survivors told authorities that there were at least 40 people onboard the migrant boat when it capsized, leaving searchers to discover that at least 17 others are missing, according to the Belfast Telegraph.

In the meantime, Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras is meeting with Turkish leaders for talks focusing on ways to stem the flow of migrants coming from Turkey into Greece.

These talks will take place as Greek authorities continue to struggle with the influx of refugees and economic migrants reaching Greek islands, notably Kos, from Turkey, reported FOX News Latino. These talks carry extra weight after it was revealed that one of terrorists responsible for the Paris attacks may have passed through Greece in October.

More than 600,000 people have reached Greece so far this year. Thousands are believed to have died or gone missing after their overloaded bots sank or capsized.
