A toddler died on Tuesday after she got her head stuck in the doors of the elevator at a private school in Hyderabad's Dilsukhnagar locality of India. Sri Chaitanya School's faculty, including the principal and a teacher have been arrested in connection with the incident, according to DNA India.

"School principal Shalini and teacher Saroja were arrested on charges of negligence in connection with the incident," said Deputy Commissioner of Police A. Ravinder.

The deceased toddler has been identified as 4-year-old Syeda Xainad Fatima. The freak accident took place at approximately 9.15 a.m. on Tuesday when Fatima and a few other students were being taken by their teacher from the ground level of the building to the third story in the school's elevator, according to NDTV.

"The students were jostling for space and pulling each other's bags inside the lift. In the midst of this, (Fatima's) hand got stuck in the grilled doors of the elevator. As some one had pressed the button for the above floors, the elevator started moving and her hand and head were pressed between the elevator and the first floor concrete roof," Malakpet inspector A. Ganga Reddy said.

Fatima's death has sparked outrage from family members and other angry parents, who are asking for an investigation to be conducted into the incident and determine why the institution was operating from a three-story building and whether or not the school has the required permissions for an elevator.

"Further investigations in the case are underway. Stringent action will be taken against those who committed the mistake," Reddy added.
