The NFL sent a contingent of league officials to Mexico City last week to inquire about the possibility of playing a regular season game at Azteca Stadium in 2016, and they have brought back positive reports, making a game there very possible for next season, according to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports.

The NFL announced in October an extension of their international series to continue through 2025 and that it would include locations other than the U.K., according to NFL reporter Ian Rapoport. The NFL's executive vice president of international, Mark Waller, stated last month that Mexico is not only the focus for 2016, but that consistency is important and the NFL could be playing games in Mexico for multiple years, according to Rapoport.

The NFL has been interested in playing a game in Mexico City next season, and after having league officials come back with positive feedback, it only seems more likely to happen, according to La Canfora.

The Oakland Raiders have been mentioned as one of the favorite teams to play a home game in Mexico City next season, but multiple teams are reportedly interested in sacrificing a home game to play there. Azteca Stadium seats over 100,000 people, and international games spread the popularity of the NFL.

There is reportedly still work to be done, but no major obstacles were found, according to La Canfora. The NFL has a strong interest in playing games in Mexico City, and it looks very likely that a game will be played in Azteca Stadium next season.
