Bristol County District Attorney Sam Sutter announced on Sept. 27 that a grand jury indicted Jenkins on a single charge of perjury.  The District Attorney's website subsequently released a statement indicating Jenkins would be formally charged in Superior Court on Tuesday, Oct. 15.

The District Attorney's Office said the charge stemmed from the Lloyd homicide investigation but declined to specify how Jenkins perjured herself.

Court documents indicate Jenkins, 24, spoke with law enforcement officials in the early stages of the investigation, but later stopped at Hernandez's request.  Court documents also indicate police believe Jenkins may have hid the firearm used in the shooting death of Lloyd, although she was never officially declared a suspect in the investigation.

Hernandez, 23, is facing life in prison for allegedly orchestrating and executing the murder of Lloyd.  Multiple news outlets report Hernandez and Lloyd became acquaintances after Jenkins' sister began dating Lloyd.

The ex-NFL star pleaded not guilty and is being held without bail while awaiting trial.
