GPU-centric company Nvidia recently announced its Jetson TX1 developer module, a "mobile supercomputer" that places an emphasis on machine learning and could decrease the time needed to develop machines that take advantage of computations and dynamic input, according to Engadget.

The kit will be available for pre-order on Nov. 12 prior to its Nov. 16 release and is priced at $599 for educators and $299 for students.

"The architecture of the computer is fundamentally changing, and it's changing right in front of us," said Nvidia CEO Jen-Hsun Huang. "We're trying to democratize machine learning."

The Jetson TX1's unique learning abilities are thanks to its graphics processing unit, or GPU, which is designed to carry out the parallel processing necessary to undertake machine learning and deep neural networks, according to ARS Technica.

Nvidia says its new GPUs can provide the level of machine learning necessary for the kinds of features currently being used by popular sites such as Facebook, YouTube and Google, including facial analysis and behavioral recognition. With "mobile supercomputer" technology available to the masses, Nvidia believes that many companies with little resources will now be able to create their own unique small-scale devices.

"Machine learning is revolutionizing web services," said Huang. "Just as the human brain is constantly learning, data centers of the future will be very much the same way."

Nvidia believes that the advent of machine learning is bringing about some of the most exciting times in technology, although there is still a long way to go before this type of computerized learning is fully understood, according to ZDNet.
