In its first move to move toward releasing original videos much like Netflix, Reddit released its first original video series on Wednesday called "Cyborg Nation," according to CNET. The series revolves around a collection of documentary shorts that examine the intersection between humans and machines and was pushed by Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian.

"The hundreds of thousands of communities of Reddit generate more original ideas in one day than the world's best newsroom could produce in a lifetime," said Ohanian.

Before the creation of the series, Ohanion reached out to Reddit users to propose unique ideas for the show, according to Tech Times.

"Hey redditors. We're working with WIRED Magazine on a new Web show called Cyborg Nation, and we're looking for some of the most imaginative and cutting edge devices and technologies that people are using and inventing to enhance human capabilities and solve disabilities," he said in a post on the site.

Currently, Reddit's community houses over 200 million people who engage in conversations on topics ranging from crime, politics and fountain pens. This population is approximately eight times that of Hulu viewers, giving it potential to turn into a hub for original video streaming.

If "Cyborg Nation" proves a success, Reddit will likely continue its foray into online video creation and begin work on new series, according to Digital Trends. However, given the five minute running time of the "Cyborg Nation" episodes, it's still not certain just how deep Reddit will go into the industry.
