A Texas man fatally stabbed his friend because he ate the last piece of chicken at dinner, police authorities said.

Reinaldo Cardoso Rivera, 38, is currently facing charges for murder in the death of his roommate Darwin Perez Gonzalez, 34, according to the New York Daily News.

Rivera, Gonzales and three other men, believed to be of Cuban descent, were all having dinner and drinking together at an apartment at 1445 Lakeside Estate in Houston. Things took a turn when Gonzales grabbed the last piece of friend chicken and ate it, which angered Rivera and led to them engaging in a heated exchange.

The argument eventually spilled into the parking lot, where Rivera and Gonzales came to blows 30 minutes before midnight where at some point Rivera pulled out a kitchen knife and stabbed Gonzalez, the Daily Mail U.K. reported.

Rivera, who was also injured during the fight, initially fled the scene but returned to the apartment complex and confessed to police officers present that he stabbed Gonzales, who ended up dead at the scene.

"The whole thing is senseless and I think we need a bigger security force over in these apartments. This complex is too big to have one or two (security) people walking around," said Elton Mathews, a resident in the neighborhood, according to KPRC.
