Pinterest announced Thursday a partnership deal with Telefonica to introduce a new Android homescreen widget for smartphones and tablets, allowing its subscribers to view feeds and pin posts directly from the homescreen.

A significant growth of Pinterest in the U.K. and Latin America has led to a focus on these markets. Android users will be able to enjoy a new Pinterest homescreen widget with which users can view feeds and pin posts to their board directly without launching the app. However, the great news comes only for Telefonica subscribers.

Telefonica is the fifth largest mobile network provider in the world with operations in Europe, Latin America, North America and Asia. The network also covers O2, Movistar and Vivo users. The latest update will be the first to arrive on O2 UK, allowing users to download the widget from Google Play Store.

Pinterest reported that its market share has increased by 130 percent since January in Latin America and the UK, so it doesn't come as a surprise that it has found a significant approach to give users in these regions extra benefits. Although, the social networking service failed to mention  global availability of the widget it has promised to roll out the app to more countries in the weeks to come.

"Interests are global, which is why we want Pinterest to be available wherever people want to find ideas for the everyday projects in their lives and get inspired for the future," Don Faul, Head of Operations, Pinterest said in a press release. "Telefonica is one of the world's most advanced communications companies, and together we can provide a one-of-a-kind mobile experience to new and existing pinners around the globe."

Pinterest has set a firm foothold in the global market. The service allows users to post photos, pin interesting posts to their board, and follow people and posts of your like. A study by Semiocast, a French social media agency, revealed that Pinterest serves 70 million users worldwide as of July.

The standard Pinterest app on Google Play is very popular and has reached downloads between 10-50 million with a 4.7 out of 5 star rating. With the amount of success, the homescreen widget is also bound to do very well.
