The New York Mets received a little help from a couple of superheroes on Friday night to cut their deficit in the 2015 World Series. Captain America and Thor came up big for New York and were key aspects in the team's 9-3 victory.

David Wright went 2-for-4 with a run scored, a home run and four RBI and Noah Syndergaard pitched six solid innings and allowed three earned runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out six.

Wright had three RBI all postseason before last night and Syndergaard earned his second postseason win in his World Series debut. Wright started things off with a two-run homer in the bottom of the first inning of Yordano Ventura. Syndergaard struggled a bit early on, but settled down after the second inning and retired 11 straight before getting out of a bases loaded jam to end the sixth.

Check out highlights from Wright's big night below:

The Mets' bullpen took care of the rest as Addison Reed, Tyler Clippard and Jeurys Familia fired three scoreless innings without giving up a hit or a walk.

Curtis Granderson and Juan Uribe also came in clutch for New York. The Grandy Man jacked a two-run homer in the bottom of the third to put the Mets up 4-3 and Uribe added a crucial RBI single in the sixth to extend the lead to 6-3.

Rookie Michael Conforto had an RBI single in the fourth and Yoenis Cespedes contributed a sacrifice fly in the sixth to make the score 9-3.

As for the Royals, they came out swinging in the first two innings and scored three runs on six hits, but they had no answer for Thor after the second frame. Kansas City scattered just one hit and two walks over the next seven innings.

The team's pitching staff experienced a similarly rough night. In Ventura's ninth postseason start, the 24-year-old allowed five earned runs on seven hits over 3 1/3 innings. Reliever Franklin Morales then surrendered four earned runs on two hits and two hit batters in the sixth to effectively squash the Royals' chances at a comeback.

The Mets will now battle in Game 4 tonight with hopes of bringing the World Series back to even. Rookie Steven Matz will take the bump for New York at 8:07 p.m. ET and he'll go up against veteran Chris Young, who the Mets already faced in Game 1.

The 36-year-old got the win after tossing three scoreless innings after the game had gone into extra innings. However, he'll have a much different task tonight as a starter on the road at a hostile Citi Field.

Matz is seeking his first career postseason win. He's 0-1 with a 3.72 ERA in two playoff starts against the Los Angeles Dodgers and Chicago Cubs.
