It's inevitable that popular series in the same genre of entertainment will be compared and contrasted. It's why Jason Bourne and Ethan Hunt are constantly held up against James Bond; it's why DC vs. Marvel will continue to rage on, and it's why "Star Wars" and "Star Trek" fans have an ongoing debate about which series is better.

However, rarely do those involved with the actual projects insert themselves into the discussion. But "Star Trek" star William Shatner has been doing just that on his Twitter account recently. Over the last week, Shatner has trolled "Star Wars" fans in advance of "The Force Awakens," starting with this comparison:

Yes, the two space suits look strikingly similar. But X-Wing pilots are just a small (and apparently expendable) aspect of the "Star Wars" story. To knock "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" for bearing a resemblance to sci-fi content that came before it is just ridiculous. But Shatner wouldn't let it go, moving on to "Battlestar Galactica."

Captain Phasma wears a helmet and so do Cyclons...That's your big reveal, Shatner? Man, Captain Kirk's mind has really faded in his old age. But his iconic arrogance hasn't waned one bit.
