Julianne Hough made an appearance on "Dancing with the Stars" as a guest judge on Oct. 7. The dancer performed as a pro dancer for five seasons and left after Season 8 but made a special appearance to sit beside Carrie Ann Inaba and Bruno Tonioli at the judges table.

Everyone was excited to welcome Hough back but her critique of pro dancer Mark Ballas and singer Christina Milian rubbed Ballas the wrong way, US Weekly reports.

"There were moments where I felt like choreography-wise, I felt like it was two people dancing side-by-side rather than together," she said. "So I really want to see [Milian] shine. I've danced with Mark. You have to stand in front to make sure you're seen."

The judges and Milian laughed after the comment but Ballas barely cracked a smile.

"The one comment for me that was a little funny is that I make it all about me... all the critiques were at me, and not [Milian]. So I thought that was a little hypocritical comment," he told the magazine. "I was the one who kind of got the heat, but you know what, that's ok! It's fine."

He went on to praise Hough as being one of the best guest judges telling the magazine that he did feel like she gave insightful feedback to the celebrity dancers.

According to US Weekly, the two have a somewhat strained relationship. At the end of the night another couple was voted off and Valerie Harper and her pro partner Tristan MacManus were the latest to be sent home.

Harper was a fan favorite but her low scores and failure to keep up with the dance moves led to their departure. Harper was looked at as an inspiration for agreeing to be on the show despite her cancer diagnosis.

In March she announced that she had been diagnosed with terminal cancer and doctors had only given her three months to live. She wasn't expected to live past June.

"It's been absolutely wonderful, completely unique - like nothing else in the world that you would ever do," Harper told the Los Angeles Times about her departure from the show. "[It] was an opportunity for me to carry a message to folks - not just with cancer, whatever they have. Whatever challenges, like our song tonight, keep on keeping on."

Her partner had nothing but nice words to say telling the newspaper that he felt like "maybe life's a little bit better since I met Valerie Harper."
