Gloria Darden, Freddie Gray's mother, was rushed to the hospital on Wednesday after she attempted to kill herself, Baltimore police said.

Darden had "self-inflicted injuries," but these were proven to be "non life-threatening." She will recover from the incident, the spokesman of the Baltimore police said, according to People.

Gray had been put in the media spotlight after he died while in police custody in April. Twenty-five-year old Gray died because of an unexplained spinal injury. This incident resulted in a number of violent protests in Baltimore.

The Baltimore police reached a settled to pay $6.4 million in damages. The six officers involved, Caesar Goodson, Garret Miller, Edward Nero, William Porter, Brian Rice and Alicia White, have all been charged of manslaughter and second degree "depraved-heart" murder, and they will face up to 40 years in prison if convicted, according to the Inquisitr.

Bill Murphy, Darden's lawyer, has released a statement about her alleged suicide.

"Because of an improper invasion of her privacy, Ms. Darden is being thrust into the national spotlight about an extraordinarily personal matter while she is still mourning the loss of her son. I saw her today and I can assure you that this kind of publicity is not at all helpful. We strongly urge the media to show restraint. The family asks that you continue to pray for her and for them," Murphy said, according to the Washington Post.

On Thursday evening, Darden underwent psychiatric evaluation.
