Indo Canadian porn star turned Bollywood actress Sunny Leone has responded to criticism over her recent condom advertisement saying that she is promoting safe sex and unwanted pregnancies.

"I am promoting safe sex. If a family isn't ready to have a baby, it's a good method of contraception as it doesn't affect a woman's health, as compared to birth control pills, which affect a woman's body, mind and hormones. I don't see it as a bad thing," the "Jism 2" actress told The Hindustan Times.

Leone's Manforce Condom advertisement had earlier sparked an outrage among India's so-called moral brigade. A senior communist politician had even blamed her and the condom advertisement for the rise in rape cases in India, as previously reported by HNGN.

Hardline Hindu nationalist politician Pramod Muthalik had earlier accused Leone of promoting rape culture in India, demanding her deportation.

The 34-year-old former porn star, who acted in super hit Bollywood movies "Leela Ek Paheli," "Ragini MMS 2" and "Jism 2," believed that she was a soft target.

"Am I am soft target? Yes. I believe I am. Does it s**k? Yes. It's horrible that people see us this way. And I won't respond, because the moment I say something, the detractors get what they want (publicity). So, neither I nor my husband will let that happen," Leone said, according to NDTV.

"I ask myself the same question, and want to know, 'Why is it my fault?' I have no idea and I don't even know the answer. But somehow I am at fault for a lot of different things that happen here (smiles), but [a few] things have been going on even before I got here," she responded when asked why she has always been criticised in India, according to The Hindustan Times.

Leone's next film "Mastizaade," an adult comedy, has recently got clearance from the censor board. The sex comedy was scheduled for release in May, but it was being held back by the board over its heavy sexual content.
