Iran's state television has showed pictures of a secret underground missile base in a rare move of openness.

Islamic Republic's Revolutionary Guards' aerospace division released pictures Wednesday of a tunnel, which was reportedly located at a depth of 500 meters under the mountains, reported CNN. The tunnel, which was filled with missiles and military hardware, appeared to be hundreds of meters long and 10 meters high. Watch the rare footage below:

A senior commander of aerospace division claimed that the underground base is one of many missile bases in the country.

"The Islamic republic's long-range missile bases are stationed and ready under the high mountains in all the country's provinces and cities," said Brigadier General Amir Ali Hajizadeh, commander of the Guards' aerospace division, according to AFP.

"This is a sample of our massive missile bases. A new and advanced generation of long-range liquid- and solid-fuel missiles will start to replace existing weapons next year," he added.

The rare footage release came just days after Iran tested three long-range ballistic missiles in violation of U.N. restrictions.

"We've got strong indications that those missile tests did violate a UN Security Council resolution that pertain to Iran's ballistic missile activities," White House press secretary Josh Earnest told reporters Tuesday, according to The Jerusalem Post.

"Unfortunately, that's not new. We have seen Iran almost serially violate the international community's concerns about their ballistic missile program," he added.
