A wild bear was caught on video going around a Russian mall in the city of Khabarovsk and only thrashing a window. There was no one hurt during the incident, but the local authorities are being investigated after shooting the bear dead even after it already left the Russian mall.

Officials are looking into whether the police could have controlled the wild bear without having the need to kill it. Russia's Investigative Committee is conducting a more thorough investigation regarding the death of the bear, according to the Inquisitr.

"More than seven teams of traffic police, regular police officers and private security roped off the area where the predator was and warned passers-by of the danger. In the meantime, the brown bear ran toward the Sunflower shopping mall, broke a glass door and got inside," police said in a statement, The Moscow Times reported.

The bear was caught after going out of the Russian mall and was eventually surrounded at a nearby kindergarten's yard.

"Without waiting for the veterinary service to arrive the bear was killed in order to avoid any attacks against local residents," the investigative committee said, according to Asia One.

Animal rights activists were not pleased with how the authorities handled the situation.

"The police did what was simplest," said Natalia Kovalenko, a local animal activist, Asia One reported.

"First they made it crazy by smoking it out of the mall, then when the animal came out and was defending itself out of fear, they shot it."
