The new CNN/ORC polls show that Donald Trump has a huge lead over next-nearest competitor Ben Carson in both Nevada and South Carolina, according to CNN.

Trump is polling at 38 percent in Nevada, while Carson trails with 22 percent. In South Carolina, Trump leads Carson 36 percent to 18 percent. All the other candidates currently in the field are polling at less than 10 percent.

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) is in third place in both states, winning 7 percent support in Nevada and 9 percent in South Carolina. Nevada and South Carolina are third and fourth on the 2016 primary election voting schedule, according to Business Insider.

South Carolina will hold its primary on Feb. 20. The Nevada caucuses begin on Feb. 23, according to The Seattle Post-Intelligencer. Neither Trump nor Carson has any political experience. Trump is a best-known in the business world and for his TV personality. Carson is a relatively unknown former neurosurgeon.

"Trump does have the additional problem that he has some ceiling of support because of his negatives. As a speculation, I think he might persist in the 20-30 percent range for some time, and that another candidate could pull ahead of that objectively low number. If so, this would be reminiscent of Pat Buchanan's most successful presidential candidacy in 1996," Princeton University polling expert Sam Wang said, according to Business Insider.
