Selena Gomez is hard at work trying to distance herself from her squeaky-clean image during her days on the Disney Channel series "Wizards of Waverly Place," and so are her fellow Disney alums Miley Cyrus and Demi Lovato. Gomez recently opened up about her own transition from child star to womanhood and commented on Cyrus' and Lovato's transformations in an interview with Refinery 29, RyanSeacrest.com reported.

"Everyone has found their identity in a really interesting way. We didn't come out as these robots that looked and dressed the same," Gomez told Refinery 29 of Cyrus and Lovato. "We had to go through our own shit. At the end of the day, it's respecting every female artist's choice in how she expresses herself, because that's what she wants."

Gomez's own transition includes a new album, the recently released "Revival," her second solo album and her attempt at soul-baring yet catchy pop music, complete with Gomez posing topless in the black-and-white, tasteful album artwork, as previously reported by HNGN. She said that shedding her innocent image is more about portraying a healthier view on sexuality and adulthood than being overtly sexual.

"It's not something where I'm like, let me glorify what I do in the bedroom," Gomez said. "But I think I have a very healthy perspective on my sexuality. It's part of being an adult, and I'm still figuring out how to be one of those, too."
